Lymphoedema Service
Lymphoedema therapy is available to people who have developed lymphoedema as a result of cancer treatment.
The four cornerstones of lymphoedema therapy are covered including skincare, exercise, fitting compression garments and manual lymph drainage (the treatment may include complete decongestive therapy).
MLD consists of very light, rhythmic and calming hand movements to stretch the skin and stimulate the lymphatic system. The aim of MLD is to redirect fluid away from swollen areas towards the healthy lymphatics in unswollen areas where the fluid can be drained by normal routes back into the circulation.
